Jeff
Cerulli grew up in a tough, predominantly Jewish area in Long Island , New York
. The other kids in his school teased him about being Italian. They would often
ask him what his family was having for dinner, for the sole purpose of laughing
at him when he said spaghetti.
In first grade, Jeff claims that mainly out of jealousy, the other kids ruined
Christmas for him. They told him that Santa Claus did not exist; that Santa
Claus was about as real as Noah and his ark. Instead of beating up his Jewish
classmates, Jeff learned to develop a sense of humor and to laugh these things
off.
By the time of his senior year in high school, Jeff had the honored distinction
of being the third funniest student in his grade. This might have crushed the
dreams of most aspiring comedians, but not Jeff. Today Jeff finds solace in
knowing that the first place winner is a raging alcoholic and that the second
place winner is a magician. However no one can blame Jeff for his dilatory
beginnings since he comes from a very unfunny family.
Both of Jeff's parents as well as his older sister are math teachers. A wild
night in the Cerulli household consisted of a game called Math Gladiators
(something to this day Jeff still has trouble talking about). Jeff always knew
teaching was not the profession for him. Defying his parents wishes for him to
at least become a gym teacher, Jeff ventured into the world of stand up comedy.
Right from the start, Jeff knew he made the right decision in pursuing comedy.
He started performing at local laundromats, pet shops and supermarkets. While
Jeff valued these shows as they prepared him for where he is today, he knew
there had to be a more appropriate venue for him to perform at. “Those were some
of the best times of my life,” Jeff says “I don't regret anything. If you can
get the mom who is just in the supermarket buying some groceries to stop for a
minute and laugh, you know you are doing something right.”
After graduating Queens College in 2003, Jeff made the big jump from Long Island
to New York City . He now resides and performs nightly at clubs all over
Manhattan . Jeff is an extremely dedicated worker and it shows on stage. His
quick wit and sarcasm are his best assets. Jeff's unique look at his life
separates him from other comics. “You think he is going to take a joke one way,
and then completely surprises you with the punch line. Jeff has been a favorite
performing for the troops for years.” Bob Hope
